We started I-search today. Here is the hand out the kids received.
I-search means you (the I in I search) will develop a question that you really want to search for. This question needs to be limited to a topic we can find answers to in the BRMS library. Ms. Lamb and Mrs. Babbitt will help you with this.
You will use the BRMS library to locate at least two sources of information. One source must be a non-fiction book. This may limit your choices of questions, so you should have a few questions of interest to you.
You will locate the book source in the library. Read it and take notes. Locate a second source on the internet. Read it and take notes.
You will then organize your notes, make an outline and decide a clear way to present your information to the class. You will have ten minutes to present. Your presentations will happen in late November.
We won't decide our final topics until next week, but we investigated finding the books we need in the library today.
We also had our first lessons for band instrument players.
In social studies we tried to finish our learning styles inventories. We will make a card to display our primary intelligences and learning style preferences. This will help Ms. Lamb to create groups and activities. So far we are overwhelmingly kinesthic and creative as a group.
All word study work gets handed in on Fridays (most of us did this...yay!) Ms. Lamb will collect journals next Friday for our every other Friday assessment.
Have a great weekend. Visit the Harvest Market, especially the BRMS craft fair.
