My favorites are: Anything But Typical by Nora Raleigh Baskin about a boy with Asbergers Syndrome. This is a great story for a perspective we might not think about.
I also enjoyed Double Eagle by Sneed B. Collard III, which is funny because I thought I would not like it, but it was a good adventure with some history in it.
I like Newsgirl by Liza Ketchum for the same reason, but I do love a good girl hero.
I also liked Pop, by Gordon Korman. I don't usually like football stories, so was prepared to hate it, but like some other books I've read, the author comes around to my way of thinking in the end.
11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass was probably my favorite. It was like some other stories, but original also. It remined me of Ground Hog's Day the movies.
I enjoyed The Small Adventure of Popeye and Elvis because of the great characters and because I am a big believer in small adventures.
Slob by Ellen Potter was another great mystery with an unusual character, a really fat boy.
I have to recommend the whole list though, and many many books on previous lists. Cate Lamb

     Mass, Wendy 11 Birthdays

The Sisters Grimm series: these books are interesting because many of the characters you have already seen before in fairy tales like snow white sleeping beauty or the 3 little pigs.

Rangers Apprentice series: This book is really good especially if you like a lot of action and adventure with a twist of magic. This book is very suspenseful and I for one could not put it down. (Laura)

A book I think all 5th graders should read is A Dogs Life because it is a heart warming story about a dog. (Ally)

I recommend that fifth graders read Schooled because it is a great story about a hippie boy making friends with people at a public school when he can’t stay at his hippie place. It is really funny and has good details about how he makes his way. (Leo)

I think a book that all fifth graders should read is Stargirl it is a very good book about a girl and a boy who have a really awkward relationship and they become very good friends.  (Casey)

I recommend that 5th graders should read Heir Apparent by Vivian Vande Velde. It is a very exciting book about a girl in the future that gets sucked into a video game. (Max)

I recommend House of the Scorpion. It is a good book because it is in the future and is about the life of a clone. (Kyle)
